Panaji: Police have filed a case against a 19-year-old man from Delhi in connection with the Goa Thar accident. A 65-year-old man from Bhopal died in the incident that occurred on Monday in North Goa. Locals have claimed that the driver of the Thar vehicle changed seats after the accident. They claimed a woman was driving the vehicle. Police are investigating the matter.
According to the FIR, Apurv Goyal, a resident of Hauz Khas, Delhi, was driving a rented Thar vehicle. It is alleged that the youth drove rashly and recklessly, endangering human life. Police said that a person travelling in a Hyundai i20 was killed after being hit by the Thar vehicle. The victim has been identified as Bhagat Ram Sharma, a resident of Bhopal. Two other people in the car suffered minor injuries. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the Hyundai i20 was completely damaged.
Eyewitnesses reported that three young women and a young man were in a red rental Thar. They alleged that the speeding Thar was coming from the opposite direction at the time of the accident. Some locals claimed that a young woman was driving the Thar at the time of the accident, and that the young man got into the driver's seat after the accident to try to protect her from police action. However, the police have now dismissed these allegations and named the young man as the driver in the FIR.
A video recorded immediately after the accident has also surfaced. In the video, the young man exits the car and calls his parents to inform them of the incident. Three young women are also seen sitting inside the car. The footage also shows the young man attempting to drive away, but locals stopped him, and the young man claims he was simply pulling over to the side of the road.
According to reports, Bhagatram Sharma, a resident of Bhopal, was traveling in his car with his family members. He suffered serious injuries in the accident, resulting in his death on the spot. Two other family members in the hatchback sustained minor injuries and are currently in stable condition. A five-month-old baby was also present in the car, who survived unharmed. Police stated that the Mahindra Thar was a rented vehicle.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the Thar driver tried to change seats immediately after the collision. A video of the incident has also surfaced, showing a young man sitting in the Thar talking on the phone. Three young women are seen in the rear seats of the damaged Thar. Eyewitnesses alleged that a young woman was driving the Thar at the time of the accident. The video also shows that one side of the Hyundai i20 vehicle was completely crushed after the accident.
Police have seized the rented Thar vehicle. Goa Police have registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation. Police officers are examining CCTV footage from the junction to determine who was driving the Thar at the time of the collision. The vehicle is still in police custody. The two injured family members are undergoing treatment, while the child has been kept under medical observation as a precaution. Police have stated that the investigation will consider forensic evidence, eyewitness accounts, and video footage to determine the full circumstances of the collision.
