Before the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, MP Brijendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Hisar, Haryana, resigned from the party's primary membership and has reportedly joined the Congress. Party President Malkarjun Kharge was there when this happened.

The official statement

He stated compelling political grounds as the reason for his resignation. "I have stepped down from my primary BJP membership for strong political reasons. In a post on X, Singh stated, "I am deeply appreciative of the party, National President Sh. JP Nadda, Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, and Sh. Amit Shah for granting me the privilege of serving as the Member of Parliament for Hisar."

He later mentioned that he had also resigned from his Lok Sabha membership. He added that he is grateful to the people of Hisar for giving him the opportunity to represent them and raise their demands as their MP. The resolve of public service for which he left the IAS job and entered politics will continue.

To welcome Singh to the Congress, prominent figures Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik, and Deepak Babaria were also present at Kharge's home. He further extended his gratitude to the party leadership, along with Deepak Babaria, Rahul Gandhi, and Malikarjun Kharge. In addition, he expressed his gratitude to the PM for providing him with the opportunity to become an MP. After joining Congress, Singh informed the reporters about several reasons why he was not satisfied there, like farmers' issues or wrestler meetings.

A look back at Singh's political prowess!

Singh used to be an officer in the Indian Administrative Service. In 2019, he entered politics for the first time after serving the country for 21 years, at his own volition.  Singh won the Hisar seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Bhavya Bishnoi, who was then affiliated with the Congress, and Dushyant Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party. He openly supported the wrestlers who were denouncing BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last year due to claims of sexual harassment. Singh is the great-grandson of legendary Haryana statesman Chhotu Ram and the son of seasoned BJP leader Chaudhary Birender Singh. Prem Lata, his mother, was a Haryana BJP MLA as well.
