A tragic accident happened in Himachal Pradesh when an HRTC bus rolled down a deep gorge near Maseran in Sarkaghat, around 60 kilometres from Mandi town. According to the police, five people, including three women and two men, lost their lives in the accident.
Mandi’s Police Chief Sakshi Verma said that about 20 passengers got hurt and are now getting treatment at Sarkaghat Hospital. Some of the injured are said to be in serious condition. Initial reports suggest the bus was carrying around 20 to 25 people when it went off the road. Police and the local administration are carrying out rescue and relief work at the site. More details about the incident are still awaited.
Monsoon Continues to Cause Damage Across Himachal
While the bus accident adds to the rising concern, the state is already facing major challenges due to the ongoing monsoon season. Continuous rain has caused serious damage in many areas, pushing Himachal Pradesh into a difficult situation.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the death toll from rain-related incidents has reached 137 so far. This number includes 77 people who died due to landslides, flash floods, and house collapses, while 60 others lost their lives in road accidents, many of which were made worse by poor weather and slippery roads.
Restoration Work Underway, Caution Advised
Efforts to restore normal life are ongoing across various districts. In some areas, weather conditions have improved, but new problems are still being reported, showing how fragile the infrastructure is during such extreme weather.
Authorities have asked people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone or high-risk areas. Citizens have also been urged to follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. Disaster response teams are actively monitoring the situation and providing help where needed.
The recent bus accident, along with the continuing rain-related damage, highlights the importance of extra caution during the monsoon season in hilly regions like Himachal Pradesh.
