IPS Puran suicide case: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has issued his first statement on the suicide of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar. In Panchkula, he stated that the government will conduct a thorough investigation and that the culprits, no matter how influential, will not be spared. He clarified that the government will take strict action if anyone has been harassed. He also advised the opposition not to politicize the issue.
On Friday night, Chief Minister Saini held a meeting with Cabinet Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Home Secretary Dr. Sumita Mishra, and IAS officer Raj Shekhar Vundru. Sources indicate that DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor is likely to be removed in this case. Meanwhile, Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia has been removed from his post and replaced by Surendra Singh Bhauria.
Puran Kumar's postmortem has not been conducted even today. Doctors and a forensic team were present at the PGI Chandigarh mortuary, but the process could not be completed without the family's consent. The family and community leaders have formed a 31-member committee, which has announced that the postmortem will not be conducted until DGP Kapoor and former Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia are arrested. A mahapanchayat has been called on this issue at Guru Ravidas Gurdwara in Chandigarh on Sunday.
On Saturday, the family alleged that the body was taken to the PGI against their wishes. Following this, DGP Sagar Preet Hooda and IG Pushpendra Kumar met with the deceased's family and urged them to conduct a postmortem soon. They assured them that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and an investigation has been initiated, and all the family's complaints are being addressed.
This incident has sparked widespread political and social outrage in the state. Congress held protests at all district headquarters. In Hisar, the Ravidas Mahasabha held a meeting, while in Rohtak, social organizations surrounded the SP's residence. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, MP Kumari Selja, and Haryana Congress President Rao Narendra Singh visited Amneet P. Kumar's home to express condolences.
Following the incident, the Haryana Cabinet meeting was postponed. The Haryana IAS Officers Association expressed deep condolences and demanded that the government and police take swift and impartial action, taking into account the family's feelings and circumstances.
