Kolkata: The politics of West Bengal has once again become heated. Amid the controversy over the proposed construction of a mosque in Murshidabad, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has made it clear that his party will not form an alliance with Humayun Kabir under any circumstances. This statement has not only given a new turn to local politics but has also given a blow to the possible equations being formed on the Muslim vote bank.

Why is AIMIM's stance so strict?

In a statement issued by AIMIM, it has been said that Humayun Kabir is taking such steps, which can spoil the environment of the area and send a wrong message within the community. The party said AIMIM will not stand with those who publicly promote “decisions that increase communal tension.” According to AIMIM leaders, Kabir's recent announcement seems to be purely motivated by political motives. The party says that his approach is completely against the core ideology of AIMIM, which is based on social justice, peace, and the constitutional path.

AIMIM refutes Kabir's claims

For the last few days, there was talk that backdoor talks are going on between Kabir and AIMIM, and both can reach some kind of understanding in the upcoming elections. But AIMIM openly said that the party is neither in touch with them nor does it intend to form any alliance. A senior AIMIM functionary said, “We do not believe in divisive politics. The kind of rhetoric Humayun Kabir is making is not good for the society. AIMIM cannot support anyone who tries to make the atmosphere tense.”

What is the situation in Murshidabad?

A few days ago, Kabir had announced the laying of the foundation of a mosque in Murshidabad, due to which differences of opinion emerged between the administration and the local people. Many political parties called it politics of unnecessary provocation. AIMIM's statement has come in this background, which indicates that the party wants to keep itself away from controversy in this matter.

What will be the impact on the Muslim vote bank?

Muslim voters play a very important role in West Bengal, especially in districts like Murshidabad, Malda, and Nadia. After this clear refusal of AIMIM, it is certain that local political equations will be affected. Political experts say AIMIM wants to maintain its image as a “grassroots, peace-loving political organization.” Therefore, the party wants to show that it cannot support any controversial person just for the sake of vote bank politics.

What is the way forward?

After AIMIM's statement, questions have also been raised on Humayun Kabir's strategy. On one hand, his announcement has increased tension in the area; on the other hand, organizations like AIMIM have made it clear by maintaining distance from him that their support will not come easily. The politics of Bengal is already full of polarization and allegations and counter-allegations. In such a situation, this stance of AIMIM may lead to new political alliances and contradictions in the coming elections.
