India-Pakistan tensions rose exponentially hours after the US-brokered ceasefire accord was announced, with Pakistan defying the ceasefire along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).

The treaty, which US President Donald Trump announced, had the objective to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear powers after there was a murderous attack on Hindu tourists in India-held Kashmir on April 22 that left 26 dead. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar corroborated the truce, expressing that India and Pakistan had adopted a complete and immediate ceasefire.
But Pakistan's armed forces opened unprovoked fire along the LoC and International Border, to which the Indian Army responded in a robust manner. The violations were witnessed in many sectors, such as Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura. India responded proportionally to the ceasefire violations, as per defence spokespersons.
Apart from the shelling, a drone was destroyed in Rajasthan's Pokhran and another one in Baramulla, Kashmir. Suspicious Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were seen in Baramulla, leading to the imposition of a blackout in Srinagar and Baramulla areas.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was shocked and frustrated at the sudden spike, tweeting, "What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!" The situation continues to be unstable, with both nations attempting to maintain the ceasefire and tackle deeper issues.
The United States brokered the ceasefire agreement, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio meeting with senior leaders from both nations. The deal is an important step towards de-escalation, but the Kashmir dispute remains a major hurdle to enduring peace. The global community is keeping a close eye on the developments, calling on India and Pakistan to move towards a more enduring peace.
