National News: In view of the increased passenger traffic during the festive season, the Railways has tightened its rules regarding the operation of special trains. These trains will now be monitored daily to ensure their punctuality. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) have been given direct responsibility for this.

The Railway Board has clarified that special trains should not be delayed under any circumstances. Accountability will be established at every level to ensure this. There has long been a perception within the Railways that special trains are not monitored as closely as regular mail or express trains. Consequently, these trains often run late, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Instructions given to all DRMs

Now the Railways is taking steps to change this situation. The Railway Board has directed all DRMs to personally monitor these trains and ensure they run on schedule. According to the Railway Board, all special trains will be monitored in real time from a war room in Rail Bhavan.

Railways Promise On-Time Trains

The punctuality rate of special trains on all major routes will also be monitored. If a mail or express train already running late arrives under a new division, the concerned division will be required to make every effort to minimize, not increase, further delays. This point will now be included in the performance evaluation of each division.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information and Publicity) of the Railway Board, stated that this initiative will enhance passenger convenience and confidence. Running trains on time will not only provide relief to passengers but also enhance the reliability of rail services.
