Chandigarh: Panic erupted at Chandigarh Airport on Tuesday after a passenger's power bank exploded shortly after IndiGo flight 6E-108 landed from Hyderabad to Chandigarh, which forced an emergency evacuation at the airport.
On Tuesday, a panic occurred on IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh when the plane landed from Hyderabad to Chandigarh. a passenger's electronic item, power bank, suddenly caught fire. An emergency evacuation was conducted immediately, and all passengers were evacuated. There were no reports of any injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, smoke filled the plane as soon as the blast occurred, and passengers began screaming. Emergency procedures were immediately implemented to manage the situation, and passengers were evacuated through the emergency exits. However, even opening the emergency gates encountered initial difficulties.
Five passengers were reported injured in the incident and were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. The fire on the plane was brought under control after considerable effort by air hostesses and crew members using firefighting equipment. Airport authorities and security agencies are investigating the incident. Currently, all passengers have been safely evacuated, and the situation is reported to be under control.
IndiGo Airlines in a statement confirmed to the press that, "On 5 May 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh was stationary after landing, an incident involving a customer's personal electronic equipment catching fire was reported."
"In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out and all the relevant authorities were immediately informed. All customers have been safely moved to the terminal and are being attended to by the team to ensure their well-being. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks before resuming operations. At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority," the airline added further.
