Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Likely to Visit India for BRICS Meet Next Week (X)
New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension and diplomatic movements in West Asia, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is expected to visit India next week. His visit is being considered and proposed to participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of BRICS countries to be held on 14 and 15 May. It is believed that issues like the current situation in West Asia, ceasefire and regional stability may be raised prominently in this meeting.
Although final confirmation is still pending at the official level, according to sources, Iran has indicated to India that this visit is currently included in the program of the foreign minister. Due to the situation in the area, this tour is being constantly monitored.
The main focus of the meeting is likely to be on the growing tension in West Asia and making a common strategy to resolve it. Iran wants that the policies of America and Israel should be discussed on the BRICS platform and a common stance should emerge among the member countries.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed his participation in this meeting. At the same time, the possibility of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attending is considered less, because at the same time, the proposed summit between former US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is also in discussion.
Araghchi's visit to India is believed to be largely dependent on the situation of the fragile ceasefire between America and Iran. If the situation worsens again or military tensions increase in the region, a change in the program is possible.
According to sources, America has presented a 14-point peace proposal to Iran. It demands Iran to stop its uranium enrichment program for several years in exchange for relief from sanctions. Currently, Tehran is studying this proposal.
India is maintaining a balanced stance on this entire issue. New Delhi believes that it will not be easy to agree on a joint statement due to deep differences between the parties involved in the conflict. This was the reason why the recently held meeting of BRICS representatives ended without a joint announcement.
It is believed that during this visit, issues like energy, LPG supply and regional security can also be discussed between India and Iran. At present, India seems to be in favor of handling the situation in West Asia through diplomatic channels.
