Ethylene oxide is a fumigant that is sometimes used to sterilize spices, but it is not approved for use in food by most regulatory agencies because it is a known carcinogen.Recently, Singapore and Hong Kong recalled several popular Indian spice mixes from MDH and Everest due to the presence of ethylene oxide. The affected products included MDH&#39s Madras Curry Powder, Sambhar Masala Powder, Curry Powder Mixed Masala Powder, and Everest&#39s Fish Curry Masala.
