Jammu: A fresh encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. This joint counter-terrorism operation is being conducted by the Indian Army, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.

How did the encounter start?

According to officials, the security forces have re-established contact with terrorists hiding in the upper reaches of the area. It is believed that 2 to 3 heavily armed Pakistani terrorists may be holed up in the region. Additional security forces have also been deployed to the encounter site.

This is considered the second major counter-terrorism operation in the dense forests of Kishtwar after the one in Udhampur. The security forces team is targeting a group linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, and firing is ongoing from both sides.

The White Knight Corps stated that under Operation Trashi-I, a joint operation underway in the Kishtwar area, the search and elimination of terrorists continues. The Army's CIF Delta unit, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF re-established contact with the terrorists in the Dichhar area at approximately 5:45 PM today.

Why is the encounter challenging?

One terrorist has been successfully neutralized in this encounter. Security forces have stated that the operation is still ongoing and a search operation is being conducted in the area. The dense forests and challenging mountainous terrain are making the operation difficult.
