All educational institutions in eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir remained closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure in view of the situation arising after tension between India and Pakistan.
Divisional commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir issued separate orders
All schools, colleges, and other educational institutions remained closed in five districts of Jammu division, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch, and three districts of Kashmir, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora. Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir had issued separate orders in this regard.
Educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday as well
Kashmir University, Central University Srinagar and Jammu University postponed all examinations for Wednesday. The Jammu University campus also remained closed. Degree colleges and private institutions also remained closed in these districts. Given the current situation, educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday as well.
On the other hand, holidays have been declared in all schools in four districts of Rajasthan located near the international border, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar, till further orders. Along with cancelling the leaves of all government employees, including police personnel, they have been asked not to leave the headquarters.
A holiday for three days in Punjab
Holidays have been declared for the next three days in schools and colleges in six border districts of Punjab - Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Ferozepur, and Fazilka. The Retreat Ceremony at the Attari Wagah border has been cancelled for spectators,s and the Kartarpur Corridor has been closed indefinitely for devotees. After the air strike, political parties in Punjab have also cancelled all their programmes.
Security has been tightened at major pilgrimage sites
Security has been tightened at major pilgrimage sites, including the four Dhams in Uttarakhand. ATS and ITBP personnel are deployed here along with the police. SSB personnel have also been deployed along with the police to increase security at the Char Dham Yatra registration center, railway station, and Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.
Security has been beefed up in the Northeast states, including the strategically important Siliguri Corridor. This area is also known as Chicken Neck. Recently, a former Bangladeshi military officer had said that if there is a war with Pakistan, Bangladesh should attack India's Chicken Neck and capture the Northeast states.
