J-K News: In a shocking turn of events, authorities have placed over 230 individuals under quarantine in Badhaal village, located in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, after the mysterious deaths of 17 residents. This alarming situation has prompted the cancellation of all leaves for doctors and paramedics as a precautionary measure amid a heightened medical alert.
Investigation Reveals Toxin as Cause of Death
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that initial investigations by the toxicology laboratory indicate that the fatalities were not caused by any infection, virus, or bacteria, but rather by a toxin. "The winter vacations have also been cancelled to deal with the medical alert situation after 17 people from three families died under mysterious conditions in the last one-and-a-half months," stated Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, Principal of Rajouri Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital.
Government Response and Medical Support
In response to the health crisis, the Jammu and Kashmir government has dispatched 10 additional medical students to GMC Rajouri to bolster the medical setup during this ongoing situation. The Nursing College quarantine center in Rajouri has been heavily secured and fenced to prevent further spread.
Identifying Contacts and Ongoing Investigations
Authorities are actively identifying individuals who came into contact with the affected families, including those who assisted in taking children to the hospital or participated in their burials. Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that investigations into the nature of the toxin are ongoing, stating, "There is a long series of toxins being tested. I believe a solution will be found soon."
Containment Measures in Badhaal Village
On Wednesday, Badhaal village was declared a containment zone with prohibitory orders imposed on all public and private gatherings due to the mysterious deaths. The fatalities included 17 individuals from three families, with a significant number being children.
Central Team and Police Investigations Underway
A central investigation team and local police have initiated separate probes into the deaths. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed following the discovery of neurotoxins in samples from the deceased. They have already questioned over 50 individuals as part of their inquiry.Dr. Bhatia noted that all 17 deaths shared a common factor: involvement of the brain and damage to the nervous system. The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover the truth behind this tragic event.
