Union Home Ministry seeks report on stampede in Tamil Nadu (jagran)

Home Minister asked for the Stempede report:The Union Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from the Tamil Nadu government on the stampede that occurred during actor and Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay's election rally in Karur. The ministry has asked the state to provide information on the situation, rescue operations, and treatment of the injured.

The state government has also constituted a commission to investigate the incident, headed by a retired judge. Vijay may also be questioned regarding the stampede.

Amit Shah Assures Help

Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Governor RN Ravi and Chief Minister MK Stalin and assess the situation and assured all possible central assistance. He wrote on X that he is very sad to know about the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed grief.

Political Reactions

The DMK blamed Vijay and the organizers for the accident. The party spokesperson alleged that the organizers deliberately held back the crowd so that drone shots could make the rally appear grand.
