Monsoon Fury: Kerala Floods And Landslides Kill Six, Heavy Rain Alert For Delhi And UP

New Delhi: Rain has started wreaking havoc in many parts of the country. Continuous heavy rains in Kerala have worsened the situation. The weather has become pleasant in Delhi-NCR and UP. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain for many places. So far, 6 people have died in floods and landslides in Kerala. 6 people are still reported missing.

How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR and UP today?

The people of Delhi got some respite from the humidity due to the rain on Saturday night. Today it will be cloudy the whole day. There may be occasional light to heavy rain and thunder. The temperature in Delhi will be between 26 and 34 degrees. On the other hand, there is alert in all 75 districts of UP. The Meteorological Department says that there may be continuous rain and strong winds in the next few days.

The situation is not good in Kerala. Due to continuous rain, many districts are facing floods and mountains are cracking. So far 6 people have died. 6 people are still missing. NDRF and local teams are searching for them. Roads are submerged in water at many places. The rivers are in spate. Considering the situation, the gates of many dams had to be opened.

Where is the greatest danger?

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in 8 districts – Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. There may be very heavy rains here. There is orange alert in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad. The government is saying that people should not leave their homes unnecessarily.

How is the rescue work going on?

4 people lost their lives due to landslides in Idukki and Kottayam. Teams of NDRF, Fire, Police and Coast Guard are working day and night. So far 65 relief camps have been set up. More than 1465 people have been kept there. 17 houses were completely destroyed in the rain, 127 houses were damaged.

What is the situation in Gujarat?

There is water in South and Central Gujarat also. Waterlogging at many places in Surat, Navsari, Bharuch, Tapi, Kheda, Anand. At some places it rained 400 to 600 mm in 24 hours. 27 thousand people were shifted to safe places. The army evacuated the people trapped in Surat.

What is the update in Assam?

The impact of floods in Assam has reduced slightly. The number of affected people has now reached 1.78 lakh. 7 districts are still submerged. There were no new deaths in the last 24 hours. So far 82 people have died. Relief material is being delivered.

• People living in hilly areas should stay away from slippery places. 
• Do not go near rivers and streams. 
• If not necessary, do not leave the house and obey the administration.
