Lok Sabha elections 2024: TMC leader Mamata Banerjee is set to kickstart the Lok Sabha election fervor with a grand rally, the 'Jan Garjan Sabha', in Kolkata today. Speculations are ripe that the party will unveil its candidate list during this massive gathering, indicating a clear intention to contest all seats in West Bengal.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Asserting TMC's stand

Ahead of the rally, Mamata Banerjee made it explicit on social media platform X that TMC stands firm on contesting independently without any compromise with the Congress. The party's decision is underscored by its absence in the INDIA alliance for the state's Lok Sabha elections. Alongside the 42 seats in Bengal, TMC will also field candidates for one seat in Uttar Pradesh, one in Meghalaya, and two in Assam. Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are slated to headline the rally.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Rally objectives

The TMC rally serves three primary objectives: kick-starting the election campaign formally, strategizing grassroots outreach, and engaging with supporters. Banerjee is expected to critique the central government, potentially highlighting issues like pending dues to the state.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Rally dynamics and criticism

The mega rally anticipates a massive turnout of 6 to 8 million attendees. Meanwhile, the BJP has taken a swipe at the event, labeling it a "farewell rally." BJP's Shubhendu Adhikari alleged TMC's support for corruption and criminal elements as the reason for its anticipated downfall. Prime Minister Modi, during his recent visit to Bengal, criticized the Mamata government for alleged financial mismanagement, accusing TMC of siphoning off MNREGA funds and facilitating corruption.

As political tensions escalate in Bengal, the TMC rally promises to set the stage for a fierce electoral battle, highlighting the contrasting narratives between TMC and BJP, while foregrounding Mamata Banerjee's leadership and the party's agenda for Bengal's future.
