India-Flagged LPG Tanker Reaches Mundra Port After 9-Day Voyage from Qatar (OpenAi)

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension in the Gulf region, a piece of relief news has emerged for India. Indian flagged LPG tanker 'Shivalik' from Qatar safely reached Mundra port in Gujarat. The ship, which arrived after a journey of about nine days, crossed the sensitive route like the Strait of Hormuz. The ship was loaded with about 46 thousand tonnes of LPG, which is expected to support the domestic supply. Officials said that another tanker 'Nanda Devi' can also reach India soon.

Is it still risky to pass through Hormuz?

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most sensitive sea lanes due to the ongoing conflict between Iran, the US and Israel. This is the same path through which a large part of the global oil and gas supply passes. The movement of many ships has been affected due to the recent attacks and military activities, although India has shown signs of relief in some cases.

Does India have a special exemption?

According to sources, considering India's energy needs, Iran has allowed some Indian ships to pass through this route. Even before this, Indian tankers were made to cross safely. However, no permanent agreement has been officially confirmed and the situation is still not considered completely clear.

How important is this consignment for India?

India imports a large part of its LPG needs and most of that supply comes from the Middle East. In such a situation, the tanker that arrived with 46 thousand tons of gas is being seen as a big relief. Officials say such supplies help prevent possible shortages in the domestic market.

Are there more ships on the way?

According to government information, another LPG tanker named 'Nanda Devi' is also going to reach Kandla port carrying almost the same quantity of gas. Apart from this, some other ships are also moving towards India, whose safety and movement are being constantly monitored.

Has concern increased regarding maritime security?

In recent days, there have been several incidents of attacks and threats against ships in the Gulf region. The Government of India, Navy and shipping agencies are working together to ensure the safety of Indian ships and sailors in the entire region. Naval surveillance and escort is also being provided if needed.

Can there be a big impact on energy supply?

Experts believe that if this tension persists for a long time, the global oil and gas supply may be affected. Its effect can also be seen on prices. In such a situation, every tanker arriving safely is being seen as a big relief for India.
