Mob Justice! Crowd kills two men allegedly trying to rape in Meghalaya

New Delhi: In a harrowing incident in Meghalaya's East West Khasi Hills district, two individuals met a brutal end at the hands of a furious mob, accused of attempting to rape an 18-year-old girl. The tragic event unfolded in Nongthliv village of Mairang, the district headquarters, as confirmed by police officials.

What is the alleged assault?

According to police reports, the girl recounted a horrifying ordeal, alleging that the two individuals attacked her with a knife and attempted to rape her while she was inside her home. Her cries for help alerted neighbors, who swiftly intervened, apprehending the accused.

Mob justice 

Responding to the distress call, the enraged mob took matters into their own hands, delivering swift and fatal justice to the accused. Despite police efforts to intervene, the mob's fury prevailed, leading to the demise of both individuals.

What happened to the accuseds?

Tragically, one of the accused succumbed to injuries at Tirot Singh Memorial Civil Hospital, while the other breathed his last at Shillong Civil Hospital. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with a case registered to ascertain the full details surrounding the fatal mob lynching.

Accuseds were from other part of the state

Both deceased individuals hailed from other parts of the state and worked as laborers in Nongthliv. Their abrupt and violent demise underscores the severity of the situation and the dangers of vigilante justice.

Another rape case emerges in Chhattisgarh

In a separate and equally distressing incident, a case of rape of a minor has surfaced in Kalai village of Arang police station in Raipur district, Chhattisgarh. The victim, allegedly exploited under false promises of marriage, bravely stepped forward to report the abuse.

Exploitation and arrest

The victim detailed a disturbing account of exploitation, revealing how the accused, identified as Surendra Lodhi, manipulated her trust over six months, beginning in December 2023. Lodhi, who initially connected with the victim on Instagram, abused his position of authority as a road construction contractor to coerce her into a coercive relationship, which lasted until May 2, 2024.
