Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the US imposing a 25 per cent tariff on India and the massive losses faced by Indian investors due to the stock market crash. He said Modi’s affection for Donald Trump seems never-ending, but Trump has betrayed India. AAP MP Sanjay Singh pointed out that Trump is pressuring India not to buy cheap oil from Russia and has even called the Indian economy “dead.” He alleged that the US is now exploring oil in Pakistan to sell it to India.
Singh also claimed that PM Modi is destroying the Indian economy to protect his friend Adani. He demanded that the Modi government clarify its strategy to protect the country’s economy.
He said that the fall in the stock market is a betrayal of common investors who put their hard-earned money into it. He pointed out that Sensex has dropped by 800 points, resulting in losses worth lakhs of crores. Singh blamed Modi’s poor economic policies for the situation and repeated that despite Trump’s clear shift in stance, Modi remains devoted to him.
He further stated that Trump is now expressing love for Pakistan and increasing pressure on India not to buy cheap oil from Russia—India’s long-standing ally. Singh highlighted that Russia has stood with India at the United Nations multiple times using its veto power, has supported India in wars, and consistently supplies affordable oil. He said the US is preventing India from buying oil from a trusted friend.
Sanjay Singh stressed that Trump is trying to cripple the Indian economy through pressure tactics, and the Prime Minister must oppose this strongly. He urged the government to clearly explain its policy in response to Trump's tariff decision. Singh emphasized that cheap oil from Russia is essential for India’s economy, and India also exports it at lower prices to other countries. He urged the government to prioritize national interests and economic strength.
He mentioned that Trump calling India’s economy “dead” and saying that America will sell oil found in Pakistan to India is part of a dangerous plan. The Modi government must now come forward and explain its strategy to protect the Indian economy.
Sanjay Singh said he submitted a notice in Parliament under Rule 267 regarding Trump’s statement. He demanded that the Prime Minister and Finance Minister address Parliament and explain how they plan to respond to Trump’s tariffs and remarks. “At a time when people need leadership, the government turns its back,” Singh said, pointing to the 800-point fall in Sensex and the huge losses investors faced.
He also hinted that Modi’s loyalty to Trump may be due to a friend of his having legal trouble in the US, giving Trump leverage to apply pressure repeatedly. On another note, Singh commented on central water projects, saying he hopes there is no corruption and that the projects do not break before being inaugurated. He asked the government to clarify how long it will take to complete them.
