Mumbai Rains: Schools Shut, Red Alert Issued, Flights Delayed as City Comes to a Standstill

Mumbai is reeling under heavy rains that have brought the city to a standstill. Torrential downpours have flooded roads, disrupted daily life, and claimed seven lives so far. Schools, colleges, and offices remain shut, while the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert warning of more rain in the coming days. In just eight hours, the city recorded 177 mm of rainfall, turning streets into ponds and leaving people stranded indoors.

Impact of Rain on Transportation

Relentless rainfall has disrupted both traffic movement and air services across Mumbai. Due to low visibility, several flights had to be cancelled, while local trains are also running late. IndiGo issued an advisory stating that due to heavy rains in Mumbai, waterlogging occurred on roads leading to the airport and traffic slowed down. This has created operational challenges, because of which both departures and arrivals are getting delayed. We regret the inconvenience caused.

Weather Department Issued Alert

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for more rain in the coming days. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered precautions for the future. The administration has said that people should step out of their homes only if it is absolutely necessary.The Meteorological Department has forecast that Mumbai will continue to experience heavy rainfall until August 21. So far, 7 people have died in different incidents. Many rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
