National News: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday that the planned execution of Indian national Nimisha Priya in Yemen has been temporarily halted. The ministry also appealed to citizens and the media to avoid circulating or believing unverified information and rumors about the case and to rely strictly on official updates.

MEA Statement

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian government is offering complete support to Nimisha Priya and her family. He added that New Delhi is actively coordinating with Yemeni authorities and has also sought assistance from friendly nations to resolve the matter.

“This is a highly sensitive case. The Indian government has been working tirelessly, and due to these persistent efforts, Nimisha Priya’s execution has been postponed. We are closely tracking developments and extending every form of help to her and her family,” Jaiswal said.

Execution Date Deferred

Priya’s execution was initially set for July 16, but after diplomatic outreach and intervention by India, the sentence has been put on hold.

Who is Nimisha Priya?

Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse, had been residing and working in Yemen for several years. In 2017, she was accused of killing a local Yemeni man. Following the trial, a Yemeni court handed down a death sentence.

Government’s Continued Efforts

The Government of India has been exploring every possible avenue to:

  • Safeguard Nimisha Priya’s life through diplomatic efforts and legal intervention.
  • Maintain constant contact with Yemen’s judiciary and administration.
  • Provide legal, emotional, and logistical support to her family.

The MEA confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Yemen and other agencies are involved on the ground to assist with the case.

Appeal for Responsible Reporting

The ministry called on the public and media to exercise caution: “We ask everyone to refrain from spreading unverified claims or speculation on this sensitive issue. Only official statements should be treated as authentic.”

Temporary Relief, Ongoing Case

The suspension of the execution has provided significant relief to Nimisha Priya’s family. However, the case is far from over. The MEA has assured that the government will keep working until a permanent resolution is achieved.
