Delhi NCR: The child, who had been jogging, was hit severely by a luxury Jaguar car that was plying on the service road of Noida Extension. He fell on the side of the Bisrakh police station area. The incident reportedly took place about 6 am on January 9 near Stellar Jeevan Society. Complaint filed by his father Murari Singh stated the car hit Neeraj, 14-year-old boy from behind and this caused severe critical head and chest injuries.

Driver caught, FIR lodged

Bisrakh police stated that the person behind the steering wheel of a Jaguar XE is a 22-year-old who resides in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district. After getting a complaint under sections 281 and 125b of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a First Information Report was lodged with police. A spokesman from the police added, "The boy continues to be critically treated at the private hospital; the driver with his vehicle remained arrested, while investigations are further in progress.

The accident has raised concerns over road safety across Uttar Pradesh, with rising cases of road accidents involving luxury vehicles in Noida and Greater Noida. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has earlier demanded full-scale awareness on the need for road safety among schools and colleges to teach the youth a lesson to avoid reckless driving and causeless casualties.

The National Capital Region has witnessed a series of accidents involving high-speed luxury vehicles. In May 2024, a BMW collided with an e-rickshaw in Sector 24, Noida, leaving two dead and three injured. Days later, a 64-year-old man was killed by a speeding Audi while crossing the road in Sector 53. Another tragic incident occurred in August, where a car crashed into a pole on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, claiming the lives of three passengers.

Increasing road accident calls for an improvement in road safety measures in terms of both traffic law implementation and public awareness. Official figures reveal over 850 road accidents took place in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district alone from January to September 2024, taking 330 lives and injuring over 750 individuals. The concerned authorities need to act strongly so that no more tragedies take place, and every pedestrian and motorists should feel secure on the road.
