Uri: Hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, Pakistan tried to target the Uri Hydroelectric Project located near the Line of Control (LoC), but the attack failed. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said that their deployed team foiled this entire attempt and there was no damage of any kind.

During the attack, some residential quarters built near the hydroelectric project suffered minor damage, but the situation was brought under control due to the prompt action of CISF.

How was Uri project saved?

This statement of CISF has come in the context when 19 soldiers deployed at Uri Hydro Electric Power Project (UHEP-I and II) were honored by the Director General of the force. These were the same soldiers who foiled the drone attacks and took the local people to safe places amid the shelling.

These 19 personnel were awarded DG's Disc on Tuesday at CISF Headquarters in Delhi. On this occasion CISF shared the details of the incidents of the night of 6th May. CISF said that the Indian Army had launched Operation Sindoor on the night of 6-7 May against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In response, the Pakistan Army opened heavy and indiscriminate shelling on Indian areas, which directly threatened the Uri hydroelectric projects and surrounding civilian areas. These projects, located just a few kilometers from the LoC, were the first to come under Pakistani shelling.

Bravery of CISF soldiers

According to the statement, amidst the bullets and shelling, the CISF team led by Commandant Ravi Yadav immediately initiated security measures. At the height of the crisis, troops shot down drones that were targeting the projects, and immediately moved the weapons stockpile to a safe location to prevent any damage.

When the shelling reached very close to residential areas, CISF personnel risked their lives and evacuated people from door to door. These included women, children, NHPC employees and their families. All this happened when shells were bursting continuously outside.

“Uri was the first ”target”—officials claim

An officer posted in Uri said that the hydropower project is very close to the LOC; hence, it became the first target. "The government's intelligence network was strong, and troops were ready on the ground. Drones were shot down, large-scale evacuation was also carried out, and not a single life was lost," the officer said.

CISF says that due to the vigilance of its team and timely steps taken, the important assets of the country remained completely safe.
