Uttar Pradesh: In an effort to alleviate societal pressures, OYO, the leader travel and hotel booking portal, has drafted a new check-in policy. According to the new guidelines, unmarried couples will not be allowed to check-in at any OYO partner hotels in Meerut. All couples, even the couples who have booked online previously, need to produce valid documents proving that they are in a relationship during the check-in process.

Policy implemented based on feedback

The new policy will first be applied in Meerut and then possibly spread to other cities depending on the feedback received. According to sources from the company, the idea was brought forward by consistent requests from civil society groups in Meerut and similar petitions by residents in other cities.

An OYO official said, "We have gotten feedback from civil society groups mainly in Meerut asking us to take steps for this. Citizens of a couple of other towns have also raised the demand that unmarried couples must not be allowed to check in at OYO hotels."

Repositioning OYO's brand end

Region Head of OYO North India, Pawas Sharma, said that the campaign aims to change the perception of OYO. "This is a part of our attempt to make OYO a brand that promises safe experiences for families, students, business travelers, religious pilgrims, and solo travelers," he added.

Other safety measures by OYO

The company has taken several nationwide measures to promote safety and improve hospitality standards. This includes holding joint seminars with police and hotel partners to reinforce safe practices, blacklisting hotels involved in unethical activities, and taking legal action against unauthorized establishments using OYO's branding.

In a bid to alleviate the concerns raised by civil society, OYO is rolling out this new policy in Meerut while striving for a safer and more family-friendly environment for its guests.
