Patna: A horrific incident has emerged from Patna, where three people were killed in an alleged land dispute. According to initial reports, two armed assailants on a bike were fleeing after shooting an elderly man, but villagers chased them, caught them, and severely beat them. Both attackers died a short time later, while the elderly man who was injured in the shooting also succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Who did the attackers target and why?
The incident occurred in Domanchak village, under the Gopalpur police station area of Patna. According to police, two assailants on a bike shot 75-year-old Ashrafi Rai. Ashrafi Rai was a land dealer. Police suspect that the disputed land, estimated to be worth around ₹20 crore (approximately ₹20 crore), was the reason for the clash.
How did the mob apprehend the attackers?
After the shooting, the two accused began running away. Villagers gathered upon hearing the noise and chased them. Both were caught a short distance away and brutally beaten by an angry mob. Within minutes, their condition deteriorated and they died before they could be treated. At present, the two accused have not been identified.
After being shot, the elderly Ashrafi Rai was immediately rushed to PMCH, but he also died during treatment. Police believe the attack may be directly linked to a land dispute.
Gopalpur police arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident. City SP East also inspected the scene. A forensic team was called in to collect evidence and investigate the circumstances of the attack. Police are examining nearby CCTV footage to determine when the attackers arrived and in which direction they were trying to flee.
The police have clarified that they are also looking at the entire incident from the angle of mob lynching. The manner in which the villagers beat the two attackers to death will be a crucial part of the investigation.
According to preliminary investigations, the disputed land is worth approximately Rs 20 crore. Police are now investigating whether there were any prior threats, transactions, or conflicts regarding this land.
