Prajwal Revanna
National News: Former MP Prajwal Revanna broke his silence on Saturday after a special court in Bengaluru convicted him in a rape case. He claimed that his "only mistake" was his rapid rise in politics. Prajwal appealed to the court to give him the minimum punishment. Prajwal, who got emotional in the court, said that the women who complained against him were "intentionally" brought forward by the prosecution. "They say I raped many women, but no woman came forward to complain voluntarily.
They came six days before the Lok Sabha elections... The prosecution deliberately brought them and made them file complaints," he said. Prajwal also said that he is a BE Mechanical graduate and has always passed on merit. Suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal was convicted in the rape case on Friday. The sentence is expected to be announced soon.
He requested the court, "I have not met my family, parents for six months. Please give me a lesser punishment." Prajwal is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JDS chief HD Devegowda. Four cases are registered against him, including charges of rape and sexual harassment.
The victim in the case, convicted on August 1, is a 48-year-old woman who was a domestic help at Prajwal's family's Gannikada farmhouse in Hassan, Karnataka. Prajwal is accused of raping her twice in 2021 and recording the incident. Prajwal claimed that the victim did not complain then and only raised her voice after some videos went viral. He said, "The only mistake of my life was that I rose fast in politics."
34-year-old Prajwal returned from Germany on May 31 last year. He failed to retain his victory in Hassan seat in Karnataka in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This sentence has dealt a further blow to his political career. The prosecution has demanded life imprisonment for him.
