Punjab Flood Relief: IPS Officers to Donate One-Day Salary to Aid Victims

National News: Punjab has recorded the highest rainfall of the last 25 years in August this year. The state received 7 mm of rain this time, which is 74 percent more than normal. Due to heavy rains, many small drains have come in spate along with the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers. Due to this, flood-like conditions have been created in many districts of the state and the lives of people have been completely affected.

IPS officers set an example of humanity

All the IPS officers of the state have decided to give a day salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to help the flood-affected people. DGP Gaurav Yadav of Punjab Police said that this step reflects the human sensation and service spirit of the police.

Big preparation for health department

The risk of spreading diseases has increased due to floods. To prevent this, the Health Department has deployed 818 medical teams in flood-affected districts, including:

  • 458 rapid response units
  • 360 Mobile Medical Squad

So far 962 medical camps have been set up, in which more than 31,876 patients have been treated. Diseases like diarrhea, gastro, skin and eye infections, blood pressure and sugar are being treated in these camps.

Special facility for pregnant women

The government has arranged a helicopter and boat ambulance to bring pregnant women to safe places amid floods. So far, 5 pregnant women from Gurdaspur district have been taken safely to relief camps and hospitals through this special facility, where timely treatment was provided to them.

Stock of 66 essential medicines ready

The Health Department has already prepared a stock of 66 essential medicines and 21 medical consumers to prevent diseases.

  • 11,103 Asha workers are distributing medicines from house to house.
  • Spreading awareness about cleanliness and vaccination.
  • With this, efforts are being made to prevent a large epidemic from spreading.

424 ambulances active 24x7.

424 ambulances are continuously serving in flood-affected areas, of which:

  • 170 government ambulances.
  • 254 private ambulances, which have been provided by IMA and nursing colleges.

From this, it is being ensured that patients can get immediate treatment in remote and waterlogged areas.

AAP leaders reached with relief materials

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader from Delhi Saurabh Bhardwaj himself reached Punjab with trucks filled with relief materials. They said, "On the instructions of Arvind Kejriwal, we are doing every effort To help the brothers and sisters of Punjab."

The public also came forward to help

  • Food packets, medicines and clothes are being distributed in flood-affected areas.
  • Many social organizations and common citizens have also come forward to help.
  • Appeals for continuous help are being made through social media.
  • Many voluntary organizations and religious organizations are engaged in delivering relief materials.

Vigilance increased in low-lying areas

The administration has appealed to people living in low-lying areas to be vigilant and go to safe places. In view of heavy rains and rising water levels in rivers, teams are increasing vigilance so that any untoward incident can be avoided. The flood of this time has not only challenged Punjab's infrastructure and health system but has also proved that the disaster can be faced only with shared efforts and human sensations.
