National News: Fortis Healthcare is investing Rs 900 crore to expand its Mohali campus, in a major step to make Punjab a healthier and more advanced state. The expansion will add over 400 new beds and a world-class medical Centre of Excellence on 13.4 acres. Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora said the project will not only improve medical facilities but also create more than 2,500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect opportunities for the state’s youth, supporting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision for modern healthcare and more employment in Punjab.
The expansion will feature advanced ICU units, cardiology, oncology, organ transplants, robotic surgery, and over 40 super-specialty services. The existing Fortis campus already offers high-quality healthcare with 375 beds and 194 ICU beds. Through a strong Public-Private Partnership, the state government aims to make Punjab a global medical hub. Multi-specialty hospitals have already started not only in Mohali but also in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and other districts, so citizens can access excellent medical services close to home.
Since 2013, Fortis Healthcare has invested over ₹1,500 crore in Punjab, establishing a network of modern hospitals across the state. This includes a 259-bed super-specialty hospital in Ludhiana, with high-quality health services also available in Amritsar and Jalandhar. The current investment reflects the “Sehatmand, Rangla Punjab” vision, ensuring every citizen can access timely, affordable, and high-quality healthcare. Health Minister Sanjeev Arora emphasised that the government is committed to transforming healthcare and providing world-class facilities to the people of Punjab.
The Punjab government’s Hospital PPP Act has enabled several pilot projects combining private and government efforts, improving medical infrastructure, technology, and doctor availability. Citizens will benefit from affordable or free healthcare services. This new medical hub will give Mohali and the entire state a unique identity in medical tourism, and Punjab is expected to become a leader in healthcare innovation. CM Bhagwant Mann has already launched over 800 Aam Aadmi Clinics, free medicines, and 38 free diagnostic services, improving the state’s health ranking and providing accessible healthcare for all.
The collaboration between the Punjab government and Fortis Healthcare marks a milestone in building a healthier, advanced, and prosperous Punjab. This initiative will make Punjab an example of resilience, strength, and world-class healthcare for the entire country.
