Punjab News: Punjab government has reported a huge success in revenue growth under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that GST revenue touched Rs 13,971 crore during April to September 2025-26. Last year in the same period, Punjab collected Rs 11,418 crore. This shows a strong increase of Rs 2,553 crore. The state’s growth rate stands at 22.35%, much higher than the national average of only 6%. This remarkable progress places Punjab far ahead of most states.
Cheema explained that growth is not limited to GST alone. VAT and CST collections also showed a 10% rise. Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) grew by 11% in the same period. These results prove that Punjab’s economic policies are delivering results. Better administration and fair practices have improved collections. This growth indicates efficiency in tax management. It shows the government’s commitment to increase revenue honestly without burdening citizens.
The taxation department has acted strongly against tax fraud. From April to September 2025, illegal input tax credit worth Rs 246 crore was blocked. Four major FIRs were registered against big frauds. Road checks and preventive units imposed fines worth Rs 355.72 crore. This is 134% more than last year. Such strict steps have created fear among tax evaders. It has directly improved revenue inflow for the government.
According to Cheema, the credit goes to transparent policies of the Punjab government. Under CM Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, tax officials have worked hard. Their honest effort has placed Punjab among the leading states in GST growth. The new system reduces corruption and increases trust among businessmen. Citizens now feel confident that taxes are used for development. This honest approach has strengthened Punjab’s image.
Despite global and national challenges, Punjab’s revenue has grown. The state faced impacts from May 2025 war-like tensions, fall in exports, and weak consumer demand. Yet Punjab recorded a record-breaking rise. This shows strong financial management and visionary planning. The government ensured reforms continued even in difficult times. People are assured that Punjab’s economy is moving in the right direction. It has become an example for other states.
The Punjab government plans to continue reforms in tax administration. More use of technology, strict monitoring, and transparent systems will keep revenue growing. Honest taxpayers will be supported, while fraudsters will face strict action. This vision of growth with honesty is Punjab’s biggest strength. By achieving strong GST numbers, Punjab has proved its ability to manage the economy. It is a clear signal that the state is ready for further development and progress.
