National news: Punjab's Bhagwant Mann government has achieved another major success in its 'war' against drug smugglers and corruption. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has filed a 140-page chargesheet against former state cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia. This final report prepared after the investigation includes about 45,000 pages of documentary evidence and about 400 bank accounts have been investigated. Statements of more than 200 witnesses have been included in the report.
During this investigation, raids were conducted at 15 places in several states of the country, in which 30 immovable properties, 10 vehicles and 15 companies or firms related to Majithia were found, which are related to illegal property acquired during his ministerial tenure. The charge sheet states that Bikram Singh Majithia acquired property disproportionate to his income by 1200% during the investigation period, the total estimated value of which is Rs 700 crore. This entire case has been presented in the court with evidence.
This action is not just an attack on a person, but on the entire political culture in which power was used to strengthen personal property and the drug network. The Mann government has proved that now the rule of law will prevail in Punjab, not of influence. Now no matter how big a name is, if he has played with the future of the youth of Punjab, the law will not spare him.
There is widespread support among the public for this action of the Mann government. From social media to village gatherings, people are calling this step a tough decision in the right direction. Parents have developed a belief that now the law is really tightening its grip on the big drug lords. The youth have got the message that whatever political forces were behind the drug dealers, now they too will not be spared by the law.
This is not just legal action, but a decisive step towards public safety and social accountability. The opposition, which for a long time called cases of political revenge, now has more questions and fewer facts to answer to the public.
This action of the Vigilance Bureau has made it clear that the era of 'mafia protected politics' is ending in Punjab and the era of accountability has begun. This decisive action of the Bhagwant Mann government has further strengthened the hope that in the coming times, the roots of drug mafia, corruption and political patronage will be uprooted. Punjab is now moving in the direction where power will mean service, and the law will be equally applicable to all.
