Punjabi Singer Mangu Gill Arrested for Brandishing Gun at Gym Trainer (Social Media)
National News: Punjabi singer Satwant Singh, better known by his stage name Mangu Gill (Gill Manuke), was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly pointing a pistol at a trainer inside a Mohali gym. The arrest was carried out by the Sohana Police following a complaint about the incident.
DSP City-2 Harsimrat Singh Bal explained that Satwant Singh was a regular at the gym and had gone there for his usual workout session. During his routine, he got into a disagreement with one of the gym trainers.
According to gym sources, the trainer had corrected Satwant on how to use a particular machine or lift weights properly. The conversation quickly turned into a heated exchange, with the trainer challenging Satwant to “discuss the matter outside.”
Instead of de-escalating, the argument intensified. In a sudden move, Satwant allegedly took out a .32 bore pistol and aimed it at the trainer right there in the gym. The act startled everyone present. CCTV footage reviewed by the police reportedly shows Satwant pointing the firearm while the gym owner and others step in, trying to prevent the situation from spiraling further.
Police were alerted and Sohana Police officers reached the gym swiftly. Satwant Singh was taken into custody, and the .32 bore pistol was seized on the spot.
DSP Bal confirmed the arrest, saying, “Satwant Singh has been booked for displaying a firearm in a threatening manner. He says the gun is licensed, and we are in the process of verifying that claim.”
Satwant maintains that his weapon is a licensed firearm, and the documents will be checked by authorities. Officials point out that: Even if the gun is legally registered, using it to intimidate someone in a public place violates the law. If the license isn’t valid, the case could lead to far more serious legal trouble.
A case has been registered under the Arms Act, and Satwant Singh will be presented in court on Wednesday. Police are expected to seek remand for further questioning and to verify details about the weapon and the incident.
Satwant Singh, aka Mangu Gill, enjoys a significant fan following in the Punjabi music scene, with several popular tracks to his credit. This incident, however, has shocked his followers and sparked criticism. Many in the industry believe that public figures must exercise restraint and act as role models rather than engaging in reckless behavior.
Law experts explain that: The misuse of a licensed firearm is still considered an offense. Pointing or waving a gun in public or threatening someone could result in charges under both the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is ongoing, and the validity of Satwant Singh’s firearm license will play a major role in determining how severe the charges—and possible penalties—will be.
