People think that having a little alcohol every day is safe and even acts as a relaxant. However, the point of question arises whether it is safe to have alcohol in some quantity or not.

Is alcohol a habit or necessity?

Alcohol in many nations around the world is a social beverage. It is now widely used at parties, weddings and office events. It is believed to relieve stress, help sleep or alter the mood. Few, however, know that alcohol has a direct impact on the brain, liver, heart and nerves. This effect is variable, depending on the amount and repeated use of the drink.

This is the reason that researchers and doctors have been researching the safe amount of alcohol.

How much is the safe amount of alcohol?

According to the experts of health care field, there is no safe amount of alcohol. It should be remembered that there is no safe amount of alcohol at all. This means that if you drink alcohol on a daily basis, you are at risk! There are, however, some recommendations according to which:

  • Men can take 2 pegs of alcohol a day, i.e. 28 grams.
  • Women can consume 1 peg of alcohol a day, i.e. 14 grams.

This is why scientists and doctors have been studying what is a safe amount of alcohol. 

Alcohol Type: One drink

  • Beer 330 ml
  • Wine 150 ml
  • Whisky/Rum 30 ml

If you consume more than this, the body is unable to digest and expel the alcohol in time and the harm starts.

How many drinks does it take to be drunk all day?

Alcohol affects people differently depending on their weight, age, if they are eating or drinking or what kind of alcohol they have taken.

  • 1 peg - effect 1.5-3 hours
  • 3-4 pegs - effect for 6-8 hours
  • 4 pegs - intoxication for the day (may vary from person to person)

Consuming alcohol on an empty stomach, in large quantities and on hard liquor (such as whiskey) all make a person more intoxicating.

What are the dangers of drinking alcohol daily?

  • Alcoholic consumption affects the liver most. It may result in fatty liver, liver inflammation, and eventually, cirrhosis.
  • Brain slowing: The decision-making process is impaired, one's mind is distracted and memory deteriorates.
  • Heart diseases: Sometimes it is good, but excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of heart disease.
  • Addiction factor: Alcohol initially is consumed for its pleasurable effects and finally ends up in physical and mental addiction.
