Putin India visit: A senior Kremlin aide has revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to India in December 2025. The visit comes at a time when ties between India and Russia are growing stronger after US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on India over Russian oil purchases. "Putin will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China where they will discuss preparations for the December visit," Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval recently confirmed that Putin will visit India soon. He said, "We have a special, long-standing relationship and we value this relationship." This visit will be an important step towards further deepening the decades-old strategic partnership between the two countries. India and Russia have long-standing cooperation in areas such as military, energy, and trade.
US President Donald Trump has taken a tough stand on India's purchase of Russian oil. Trump said, "India is not only buying huge quantities of Russian oil, but is also selling a large part of the oil purchased at huge profits in the open market. They do not care how many people the Russian war machine is killing in Ukraine." The US claims that this tariff is part of the pressure to stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, India has opposed this move, calling it "unfair, unfair and illogical".
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries have tried to reduce Russia's export earnings. In response, Moscow has shifted its energy sales away from Europe to countries like India and China. This is generating billions of dollars in revenue for Russia, which has helped keep its economy stable.
