Only Justice PS Narasimha has remained. Former CJI D Y Chandrachud and Justices S K Kaul, Ravindra Bhat, and Hima Kohli retired. Presently the CJI is Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who had avoided the case initially in July 2023, and the fresh bench took up the caseJudgment and its aftermath in october 2023On the Supreme Court&#39s decision of October, this court made a 3-2 majority verdict declaring that the constitution does not provide protection in marriage or for civil unions involving same-sex couples. Such a court held the discrimination that exists against these queer couples although it understood that these kinds of discriminations do exist and determined that those should be looked upon by parliament not to be brought into courts so that any legality status of a marriage is becoming irrelevant to homosexual couplesSupreme Court upholds same-sex marriage rulingThe rejection of the review petitions has caused much hue and cry, especially from LGBTQIA+ activists. Lawyer Udit Sood, one of the original petitioners from the US, stated that the majority opinion meant a denial of justice for queers, more particularly civil unions and adoption rights. The community continues to fight for equal rights and protection before the law
