Sandeshkhali: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali on Friday, seizing a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols. This development comes amidst the ongoing investigation into the attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team by a mob allegedly instigated by Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in January.

CBI takes center stage after High Court intervention

Following a Calcutta High Court order, the CBI registered three FIRs related to the January 5th incident. The High Court's intervention directed the CBI to probe alleged offenses in Sandeshkhali, including illegal land acquisition, violence, and sexual assault against women. This move by the CBI reflects growing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the region, plagued by reports of rampant criminal activity.

Raids follow tip on hidden arms cache

Acting on intelligence received during their investigation, the CBI launched search operations on Friday morning. The raids yielded a significant haul of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols. Officials are continuing their search, with the possibility of unearthing further weapons.

West Bengal government challenges CBI probe

The West Bengal government has challenged the Calcutta High Court's decision to hand over the investigation to the CBI. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter on April 29th, 2024.

Sheikh Shahjahan arrested for mob attack

Following the attack on the ED team, in which three officials were injured, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested by the West Bengal Police on February 29th, 2024.
