National News: A sudden gas leak from the operation theater of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil Government Medical College triggered chaos in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday afternoon. As soon as the smell spread inside the hospital, there was chaos among the patients and their attendants. People started running out of the ward in panic; some had difficulty breathing, while some felt severe burning sensations in their eyes.
Initially no one understood what was happening, but as the smell spread, the atmosphere inside the hospital was filled with fear and confusion. The patients admitted near the operating theater were the first to feel the effect. The attendants started picking them up and taking them out of the hospital premises in a hurry. Seeing the condition of some patients deteriorating, the medical staff immediately started evacuating all the wards.
Medical College Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar confirmed the incident and said, "Probably some chemical smell like Permaline gas spread from the operation theater, which caused problems for the patients. We have evacuated the entire area, and the specialist team is engaged in investigation."
He also clarified that a serious patient died not due to a gas leak but during the ongoing treatment. "People should not believe any rumors," Dr. Kumar appealed.
As soon as the information about the incident was received, teams of the fire brigade and police immediately reached the spot. The fire department sealed the entire operating theater and started trying to find out the cause of the leak with the help of experts. District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh arrived at the scene, assessed the situation, and confirmed that there has been no loss of life and the situation is currently under control.
After about two hours of chaos, the situation gradually became normal. The patients who were temporarily evacuated are now being shifted back to the wards. The administration has assured that there will be no activity in the operation theater until the real cause of the leak is known. A special technical team has been formed, which is checking the equipment and gas line.
