Storm, Alert
National News: The mood of the weather in the country has completely changed at this time. The southwest monsoon has knocked ahead of time and now it has become active in many parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. According to the Meteorological Department, in the next two days the monsoon will rapidly move towards the north and north-east and will become fully effective in West Bengal, Bihar and the northeastern states.
A low pressure area is developing in the Bay of Bengal near the east coast. This may cause heavy rains in Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and surrounding areas. The Meteorological Department has warned that this system will move northwards and other states will also receive widespread rains. Very heavy to extremely heavy rains have been predicted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the Northeast on 29 and 30 May. Heavy rains are also expected in Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
The weather conditions remain severe across South India, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. From May 28 to 30, many regions in these states are expected to experience heavy rainfall. Notably, several locations in Kerala and coastal Karnataka have recorded over 100 mm of rain within 24 hours. Lightning strikes and strong winds have disrupted daily life, while storms and showers persist in western India’s Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha. Rainfall may continue in Konkan and Goa until June 2. Additionally, parts of Gujarat are forecasted to see light to moderate rains accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 40-60 km/h.
Northern India, including Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand, is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with intermittent light rain and thunderstorms. From May 28 to 31, Delhi-NCR may witness episodes of light rain, thunder, and gusty winds, with temperatures ranging between 36°C and 40°C. On May 30, wind speeds could escalate up to 60 km/h. Western Rajasthan will continue to face a heatwave, while eastern Rajasthan might experience light rains and dust storms. Temperatures in Barmer and Jaisalmer remain above 45°C. Authorities have advised people to avoid outdoor activities during the afternoon hours to reduce heat-related risks.
