Tamil Nadu Stampede

National news: In Tamil Nadu, a major tragedy struck at a rally organized by actor-turned-politician Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vetti Kazhagam (TVK), in Karur. The crowd turned out to be much larger than expected, and the jostling and pushing turned from celebration to mourning. Vijay was delivering a speech from the stage when the crowd suddenly became unruly. In the chaos, many people fainted and fell to the ground from suffocation.

Permission for 10,000 people

According to reports, permission was obtained from the administration for 10,000 people for the rally, but approximately 50,000 people arrived. The rally venue, measuring only 120,000 square feet, proved impossible to accommodate such a large crowd. The administration had already warned the organizers that Vijay's popularity could lead to a large crowd.

Many children and families were also affected by the tragedy. Several young children were seriously injured as they jostled and suffocated in the crowd. Health Minister M.A. Subramanian confirmed that more than 29 people have died so far, and many more are being treated in various hospitals.

Many people lost their lives

As soon as Vijay saw people falling and fainting from the stage, he immediately stopped his speech. Using the microphone, he appealed to party workers and supporters to clear the way for ambulances and help the injured. Vijay stated that public safety was his party's top priority. Following his instructions, party workers began transporting the injured to the hospital, but by then, many had already died.

Stampede Sparks Tamil Nadu Political Storm

The accident has shaken Tamil Nadu politics. Senior AIADMK leader E. Palaniswami described the incident as "shocking and tragic" and expressed condolences. Meanwhile, former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji immediately rushed to the hospital and met the injured. Following the incident, questions are being raised about who is responsible for the negligence in crowd management and security arrangements.

This tragedy at Vijay's rally raises serious questions about the administration and organizers' preparedness. On the one hand, it's a testament to his popularity, while on the other, it highlights how large-scale events, without proper management, can lead to tragedy.
