Facing another blow after getting banned for 14 products, Patanjali Foods had received a show cause notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence in Chandigarh over a Rs 27.5 crore tax claim. The authority has pulled up Patanjali Ayurved over input tax and could impose penalties under the CGST act.

The show cause notice issued by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Chandigarh Zonal Unit, questioned the company as to why input tax of more than Rs 27 crore should not be recovered along with the interest and why the penalty should not be imposed under Section 74 and other applicable provisions. Apart from this, the state has also demanded the formula of the drugs from Patanjali.

The notice of the hefty amount came a day after when the Uttarakhand government suspended 14 products manufactured by Patanjali Ayurved, including popular offerings Swasari Gold, and Mukta Vati Extra Power in a misleading advertisement case.
Notably, the company has just received the show cause notice and will be taking all necessary actions to defend its case before the authorities.
