New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha on Sunday criticized the Union Budget 2026, calling it a "show-off and deceptive" budget and saying it failed to address employment, farmers' welfare, or the country's debt.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Sinha said, "This is a 'show-off and deceptive' budget... This budget is not for a developed India. It doesn't address employment or the country's existing debt. The central government owes money to several states. What scheme has been brought for the welfare of farmers? This budget is not worth rating."
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the Union Budget, saying it ignores the poor and villagers. He said it doesn't create jobs and is only for the richest five percent of the population. Yadav told ANI, "This budget is beyond the understanding of the poor and those living in villages. No jobs or employment have been provided in this budget. The BJP's budget is only for five percent of the country's population."
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026-27 in the Lok Sabha today, her ninth consecutive Union Budget. Stating that the Union Budget 2026-27 is inspired by youth power and based on three duties, Sitharaman proposed the commissioning of seven high-speed rail corridors, new dedicated freight corridors, and 20 national waterways over the next five years as part of the Union Budget.
The Union Budget emphasizes environmentally friendly passenger transport, proposing the development of seven high-speed rail corridors connecting major urban and economic centers. These corridors will act as connectors for development, reducing travel time, lowering pollution, and contributing to regional growth.
