New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented Budget 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Sunday. With this, the round of discussion on this is going to begin in the Parliament. There will be a general debate in the House from Monday, in which all parties will express their views on major issues of the budget.
This debate is considered an important part of the budget session. First there will be a general discussion, then detailed discussion on ministry-wise grant demands, and finally the voting process will be completed.
According to parliamentary rules, initially the members speak on the entire structure of the budget. In this, questions are openly raised on taxes, expenditure, schemes and priorities of the government. That is, this is the platform where the opposition and the ruling party come face to face and there is a direct debate on the direction of the government's policies. Later the expenditure of different ministries is closely reviewed.
There are indications that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi may take part in this discussion. On Sunday, journalists asked him questions on the budget in the Parliament complex, but he refused to respond there. He clearly said, “I will present my views inside the Parliament.” It is clear from this that they are preparing to directly corner the government in the House.
Rahul Gandhi had reached Parliament with his sister Priyanka Gandhi. Both of them left from there without giving much answer to the media's questions. However, later Rahul Gandhi openly expressed his concerns on social media. He said that this budget has failed to understand the real problems of the country.
Rahul Gandhi wrote that the youth of the country do not have employment, the manufacturing sector is weakening, investors are withdrawing capital and the savings of common families are decreasing. Apart from this, the problems of farmers are also increasing. He says that instead of taking concrete steps on these big issues, the budget ignored them. According to him, this is a budget that seems to turn its back on real challenges.
Overall, there may be a heated debate regarding the budget in Parliament in the coming days. The government will defend its plans, while the opposition is preparing to demand answers. Now everyone's eyes are on what major issues arise during the discussion and what clarification the government gives.
