UP News: In a disturbing incident, a 22-year-old woman from Lucknow was allegedly molested by the assistant driver of a double-decker sleeper bus operated by Vaishali Travels on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway early Wednesday morning. The woman, who works in Noida, was traveling alone when the assistant driver, identified as Rizwan from Gonda district, approached her while she was asleep around 3 AM. He lay down next to her and made inappropriate gestures.Victims quick actionThe woman, realizing the severity of the situation, tried to alert other passengers, but the driver refused to stop the bus. In her distress, she called the police helpline number, 112, for help. Responding swiftly, the police intercepted the bus at the Saurikh cut in Kannauj and apprehended the accused.A molestation case was promptly filed against Rizwan, and he has since been sent to jail. According to Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand, “The accused is being sent to jail, and night patrolling on the expressway has been increased to ensure the safety of passengers.”Familys involvement in the incidentThe womans family was informed and arrived at the police station to file a formal complaint. The bus, which was carrying approximately 60 passengers, was en route from Noida to Patna via Lucknow. The quick response from the police has been widely appreciated, but the incident has raised concerns about the safety of women traveling on long-distance buses.
