Varanasi: On Wednesday afternoon, panic erupted at Varanasi Airport after authorities received information about a possible bomb inside an Air India Express flight bound for Mumbai. The plane was immediately taken to the isolation bay, and all passengers were safely evacuated. Security forces surrounded the airport and began an intensive search operation. The situation caused fear among travelers, and all flights were temporarily delayed.

Why Was The Mumbai Flight Targeted?

Officials said the aircraft had arrived from Mumbai and was preparing for its return flight when the warning came in. An unknown caller claimed a bomb had been placed on board. The CISF and airport police quickly moved into action, evacuating the passengers and scanning the aircraft thoroughly. Bomb squads inspected every corner and rechecked passenger baggage for any possible threat.

What Did Air India Express Say About The Threat?

In an official statement, Air India Express confirmed receiving a “security-related threat” to the Varanasi-Mumbai flight. The airline said that immediate steps were taken as per government security protocol. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was informed, and a detailed inspection was launched. The airline assured that the aircraft would only be cleared for takeoff after security experts confirmed it was safe.

How Did The Airport Security React?

Following the alert, additional security forces were deployed at the airport. Local police, CISF, and intelligence teams sealed the area and increased surveillance. All passengers and airport staff underwent another round of security checks. The incident led to a temporary suspension of flight operations while the threat was being investigated.

Why Did Ayodhya Also Come Under Security Scanner?

Meanwhile, a separate panic broke out in Ayodhya when a suspicious unclaimed bag was found near the Circuit House Bus Stand. Locals informed the police after noticing the black bag lying unattended for over two hours. Within minutes, police, bomb squad, and dog squad teams arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure.

What Was Inside The Suspicious Bag?

After careful investigation, the bomb squad opened the bag and found clothes and other personal items inside. Officials said the contents suggested it may belong to a woman traveler. Although there was no explosive material, police are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the owner. The scare, however, led to heightened alertness across the city.

Are These Incidents Linked To A Bigger Pattern?

Security experts believe such consecutive alerts might be a deliberate attempt to create panic or test the preparedness of law enforcement agencies. The timing of both incidents—just days after the Delhi car blast—has made authorities extremely cautious. With upcoming festivals and VIP visits, police and intelligence units are keeping a close watch to ensure public safety.
