West Bengal: 3 Arrested For Medical Student's Gangrape; Search On For Two (X/TIN)
Medical Student's Gangrape Case: In a latest development in the West Bengal horrific incident, Police has arrested three persons involved in the gangrape of a medical student of Durgapur, as per the officials. The officers investigating the case further stated that the search of two others in connection with the gangrape case is underway. Notably, the police officials have not disclosed the identity of those arrested in the case.
"We have arrested three persons in connection with the case. They are being questioned. This is a very sensitive case and we will give out further details later," West Bengal Police official told PTI.
As per police officials, a medical college student from Odisha was allegedly raped in Durgapur by some men.
It is to be noted here that the incident took place near the campus of the private medical college in Durgapur on October 10. Reportedly, the incident happened when the medical student was out for dinner with one of her friends.
As per police, she along with her friend were out for dinner between 8 and 8.30 pm on Friday. Reportedly, her friend left the place when three men reached the spot, they snatched her phone and took her to a jungle and raped her. Reportedly, after the incident, they also demanded money from the girl in return for her phone.
Durgapur Commissionerate DC (East) Abhishek Gupta told PTI, "The matter is sensitive. The investigation is being conducted with all aspects in mind. As soon as more information is available, it will be shared."
"We spoke to the victim's friend last night. We are trying to find out CCTV footage. A forensic team will visit the spot to collect evidence," he further added.
After he incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a protest in West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari, who leads the BJP in West Bengal Assembly, stated, "Since last year's incident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where an on-duty doctor was gang-raped, there have been several incidents where women were tortured."
