Government Employees Get 20% DA Hike as Suvendu Government Unveils First Full Budget (X)
Kolkata: The BJP government in West Bengal presented its first full budget on Monday with a big focus on welfare schemes, rural development and relief to employees. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, while presenting the budget in the Assembly, proposed to spend Rs 36 thousand crore on the ongoing Annapurna Scheme for women. Along with this, a 20 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees was also announced. The budget is being considered an important step towards accelerating employment, industrial investment and social security in the coming years.
Annapurna Yojana was prominent among the biggest announcements of the budget. The state government has made a provision of Rs 36 thousand crore for this scheme. The government claims that lakhs of women are getting direct economic benefits from this scheme and it has boosted the income of rural families. The BJP government is presenting this as its major scheme for women empowerment.
Giving major relief to state employees and pensioners, the Finance Minister announced a 20 percent increase in dearness allowance. This decision is considered important for the employees who have been demanding increase in DA for a long time. The government says that this will increase the purchasing power of the employees and the impact of rising inflation will be reduced to some extent.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had already indicated that there will be special emphasis on employment and industrial development in the budget. The government is preparing to bring a new industrial policy, which may include provisions like incentives for investors, a single window clearance system and simplifying the processes of land acquisition. The government believes that this will increase investment in the state and create new employment opportunities.
The budget also emphasizes on expansion of rural roads, drinking water, health facilities and infrastructure. The state government has indicated that development projects in rural areas will be accelerated with the help of various schemes received from the Centre. Additional resources will also be provided to increase rural employment and road connectivity.
Analysts believe that this budget makes the priorities of the BJP government clear. On one hand, an attempt has been made to provide relief to women and employees, while on the other hand, an effort is seen to give a new direction to the state's economy by promoting industry and investment. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta has already said that the government is preparing a development-oriented budget by taking suggestions from the people and various stakeholders.
Although many big announcements have been made in the budget, now the government will face the challenge of implementing them on the ground. Creating employment, attracting investment and maintaining a balance of resources for welfare schemes will be the biggest test of the government. The impact of these announcements in the coming months will determine how well the budget meets public expectations.
