The Candidate: Influential politicians allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct have sparked uproar in Hassan district and on various social media platforms. Pen drives circulating throughout the region reportedly contain footage depicting these politicians coercing women into sexual acts.

CM Siddaramaiah forms SIT

Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, announced the formation of a Special Investigative Team (SIT) to address allegations against Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JDS chief HD Deve Gowda. Revanna, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate vying for re-election to the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, is said to have fled to Germany in response to the mounting accusations.

The Chief Minister's decision materialized on April 27, following a plea from Nagalakshmi Choudhary, chairperson of the State Women's Commission, who brought the allegations against Revanna to the attention of the CM and the state police chief two days prior.

Meanwhile, an X user citing local reports wrote, "He is Prajwal Revanna Hassan MP from BJP alliance party JDS, also the candidate in 2024 LS More than 200 videos have been leaked which proves that he is serial women abuser sexually. It is reported that he abused 2700 women in Karnataka. CM Siddaramaiah formed SIT to probe into this matter but he has already departed for Germany like Nirav Modi and Vijay Malya ran out of India. This isn't possible without help from top. BJP should clarify their stand on this scandal and tell when are they breaking the alliance with JDS. They were aggressive on Sandeshkhali and so far, no clarification on Prajwal Revanna scandal against women."

Revanna with multiple woman

The Karnataka Mahila Dourjanya Virodhi Vedike, which filed a formal complaint with the women's commission, asserted that footage of the politician engaging in sexual misconduct had been disseminated via pen drives across Hassan district and circulated on social media platforms. Allegedly, the videos feature Revanna alongside multiple women.

"This incident has endangered the lives and tarnished the dignity of numerous women," stated the Vedike in its complaint to the women's commission.

Congress leaders seeking explanations

The controversy surrounding these allegations has ignited tensions, with Congress leaders pressing both the JDS and BJP, who are contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance, for explanations. The polling for seats contested by the JDS concluded on April 26.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of Karnataka called for leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JD(S) to issue clarifications, citing the accusations against the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. "The Prime Minister, BY Vijayendra, Shobakka, Ashok, Kumaranna, and Ashwath Narayan must answer to the people," he asserted.

Last year, Prajwal Revanna filed a lawsuit against an individual named Naveen Gowda, alleging that the incriminating visuals had been doctored to implicate him. Furthermore, Revanna obtained an ex-parte injunction from the Principal City Civil and Sessions Court, restraining 89 media outlets from disseminating any defamatory content against him.

Courts in Bengaluru have exhibited a tendency to grant ex-parte injunctions against media outlets, particularly when politicians are involved.
