Asia Cup squad: Team India has been announced for the Asia Cup. Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been given a place in this team. Making a brilliant comeback in the T20I setup, India's Test captain, Shubman Gill, has been included in India's Asia Cup team as vice-captain.

On Tuesday, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar announced the team. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team. Gill has been given the command of vice-captaincy. The Cricket Asia Cup is starting on 9 September in the UAE. India is the host of this tournament. The main match against archrival Pakistan will be on 14 September, both matches of which will be held in Dubai.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer are out

One of the biggest surprises was the exclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, who were expected to remain in the team. Another important change was that the vice-captaincy of Axar Patel was given to Gill, but his place as a specialist spinner was retained. The spin department also includes Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakraborty along with Axar, while Washington Sundar is once again out of the team.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar admitted there was no place for Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer despite his blockbuster IPL 2025 season for Punjab Kings. The Men in Blue have decided to go ahead with the T20 squad that featured in the last three series from September 2024 onwards.
