New Delhi: Nestled high in the lap of the mighty Himalayas, Bhutan is not exactly known for its prowess on the cricket field. However, off-spinner Sonam Yeshe has etched her name in the history of the ‘gentleman’s game’ with a stunning performance in the third T20 International against Myanmar.
The 22-year-old became the first-ever bowler to claim an eight-wicket haul in the shortest format of the game during a T20 match in Gelephu on December 26.
Sonam conceded just 7 runs during her unforgettable spell of four overs, which included a maiden. Her economy rate stood at an incredible 1.75, making it one of the most dominant bowling displays ever.
The previous best bowling figures in a T20 game was a seven-wicket haul by Netherlands’ Colin Ackermann in 2019, while Afghanistan’s Taskin Ahmed repeated the feat in 2025.
