Sports News: Young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel grabbed his big opportunity in style by scoring his maiden Test century against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Playing in place of injured Rishabh Pant, Jurel reached the milestone on the second day of the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Coming in after captain Shubman Gill’s dismissal, the youngster first witnessed KL Rahul complete his hundred and then went on to register his own, marking a memorable moment in his early career.
Jurel completed his maiden Test century in the third session of the day by hitting a boundary, reaching the milestone in 190 balls. On his way to the century, the right-handed batter struck 12 fours and 2 sixes. With this, he became the 12th wicketkeeper-batsman to score a Test hundred for India. Before him, legendary wicketkeepers like Vijay Manjrekar, Syed Kirmani, Ajay Ratra, Deep Dasgupta, MS Dhoni, Nayan Mongia, Wriddhiman Saha, and Rishabh Pant had also scored Test centuries. Not only this, Jurel became the fifth Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to score his maiden Test century against the West Indies. Before him, Vijay Manjrekar, Farokh Engineer, Ajay Ratra, and Wriddhiman Saha had registered their first Test centuries against the Caribbean team.
