New Delhi: Australia's experienced all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (37) has made it clear that he will not participate in the IPL 2026 mini auction. He wrote on social media that this decision has been taken after long deliberations. He is the third big name after Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell, who has stayed away from the auction this time.
Maxwell's absence is being considered a blow for many franchises. Foreign all-rounders are less available anyway and his importance had increased further after Russell left the IPL. It was believed that if he had entered the auction, he would have got a big bid, but he himself said that after playing IPL for years, he now wants to move forward.
What was the last message given by Maxwell?
In his message, Maxwell also gave a farewell feel to the IPL. He wrote that this league has been very important in building his career. Here he has played with great players and great franchises and performed in front of crowds whose enthusiasm is amazing. By writing “see you soon” at the end, he also hinted that he might not return to the field again.
How was the last IPL season?
Last season was very difficult for him. Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 4.2 crore, but he had to be ruled out due to injury in the middle of the season. He could score only 48 runs in six innings and captain Shreyas Iyer used him as a bowler in many matches.
How was his IPL career?
Maxwell's IPL career has always been full of ups and downs. He debuted with Delhi in 2012 and won the title with Mumbai Indians the very next year. In 2014, he gave his best performance of the season for Punjab and scored 552 runs. After this, his form kept going up and down for many years. He played consistently good seasons for RCB from 2021 to 2023 and scored 513, 301, and 400 runs. Overall he scored 2,819 runs in 141 matches and also took 41 wickets.
Are a large number of players included in the IPL mini auction list?
The year 2024 was bad for him, in which he was able to score only 52 runs. After this, RCB released him. It is believed that the unstable performance of the last few seasons also influenced his current decision. Meanwhile, preparations for the IPL 2026 auction are also gaining momentum. A total of 1,355 players have registered this time. Among these, there are 45 players who have kept the highest base price of Rs 2 crore. The ten franchises have to fill 77 slots and submit their preliminary list by December 5.
